Stranded Inventory
Inventory
FBA stock that cannot be sold because its listing is suppressed, deleted, or has a pricing error. Stranded units accrue storage fees but generate no sales and lower Inventory Performance Index.
Stranded inventory refers to FBA stock that cannot be sold due to issues such as suppressed listings, deleted products, or pricing errors. In the EU, sellers may incur storage fees of €26-36 per cubic metre, which accumulate monthly without generating sales. This situation negatively impacts the Inventory Performance Index (IPI), which matters for maintaining FBA eligibility; an IPI below 500 can result in storage limits. To resolve stranded inventory, sellers can utilize the Inventory Dashboard to identify and rectify issues promptly. Additionally, Amazon's Removal Order process allows sellers to remove stranded units, but this incurs a fee of €0.15 per unit. The trade-off for maintaining a healthy IPI is the need for regular inventory audits, especially before peak seasons like Q4, when storage fees rise sharply. Sellers in DE, FR, IT, ES, UK, PL, and CZ should monitor their listings closely to prevent inventory from becoming stranded, as this can significantly affect cash flow and overall profitability.
